How do I become a member of YHA Australia?
As part of your first night’s stay at one of our properties, you will become a member of YHA Australia at no additional cost.
If you are an Australian resident but won't be staying at a YHA in Australia, you can become a member for $15 through our online application form.
How long is my membership valid for?
Membership is initially valid for two years.
How is my membership renewed?
Each time you stay at a YHA in Australia your membership will be renewed for two years from the check-in date (at no additional cost).
If you won't be staying at a YHA in Australia and wish to renew, you can do so online for $15 by submitting your application and payment here.
How do I get access to a member discount?
To access your member discount, simply log into yha.com.au or the YHA Explorer app. When logged in, you will receive 10% off your stay.
If you book through YHA Explorer, your discount increases with each completed stay, up to a maximum of 15%. Please note that this enhanced discount is only available for bookings made through the YHA app and does not apply to bookings made via the YHA website (discount remains at 10%) or third-party booking agencies.
Why can't I login?
You may not have set up a login with YHA Australia. You can set this up here or via the YHA Explorer app.
If you are trying to request a new password but do not receive an email, it means we don't have a registered login for you.
How do I access my membership card?
Membership cards can be accessed via yha.com.au or through the YHA Explorer app.
If you’re unable to access your membership card, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
- Your membership is not yet activated. If you haven't stayed with us before, your membership will activate upon check-in.
- Your login email does not match the email address associated with your membership (contact YHA Membership).
- You booked through a third-party platform (e.g., booking.com), and we do not have your personal email on your record. In this case, please contact YHA Membership.

Does YHA issue physical membership cards?
No, YHA no longer issues physical membership cards.
Will my digital membership card be accepted by discount providers and at overseas properties?
Yes.
I am a YHA/HI member in my home country - will I also become a member of YHA Australia if I stay at one of your properties?
Yes, you will become a member with YHA Australia as part of your first night's stay. Your membership with your home association however is still valid.
I didn't book direct with YHA - do I still become a member when I check-in?
We want everyone to be part of YHA, so yes, you will become a member when you check-in at your first YHA property. It is important you give us your personal email address on arrival so we can link your membership card to your login.
I didn't book while logged in - did I still get the discounted rate?
In order to receive the discounted rate, you must be logged into yha.com.au or the YHA Explorer app prior to making your booking.
