Meet the Artist: Wanita Lowe
Wanita Lowe is a proud Dunghutti Biripi woman who was raised in the Riverina area of New South Wales. She is also a member of the Wiradjuri community, and feels connected to all 3 countries, Freshwater and Saltwater.
Wanita works as a Cultural arts teacher and cultural educator. She works in both traditional and contemporary practices, from weaving to ceramics, painting, printing, and exploring with ink and drawing mediums. Her work incorporates inspiration from her personal culture landscape, stories and life experiences, which have altered and shaped the proud Aboriginal woman she is today.
During her time in residency, Wanita worked on her art and hosted three artist workshops (painting & weaving).
Wanita was introduced to YHA by the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative art space in Leichhardt which is an Aboriginal owned gallery dedicated to supporting New South Wales artists. Boomalli is a Co-operative with over 60 artist members based in Sydney and regionally.
YHA is proud to partner with Boomalli.
