YHA-Atlassian Tech Central Development
20 Oct 2021
The ‘YHA of the future’ just got closer, with the greenlighting of plans to develop an iconic building in the heart of Sydney’s Central Station precinct.
A State Significant Development Application (SSDA) has been approved by the NSW Government to develop a new Headquarters for technology company Atlassian, incorporating a state-of-the art YHA, in an emerging ‘Tech Central’ hub.
This striking building will rise above the historic Inward Parcels Shed that was home to Railway Square YHA at 8-10 Lee Street, Sydney. To be known as ‘Atlassian Central’, this innovative property will include YHA accommodation for nearly 500 travellers on the lower levels.
With sustainable building design at the core, abundant natural light and ventilation, and spacious co-living areas to meet other travellers, it will revolutionise the concept of a ‘youth hostel’.
Offering a mix of private and co-living rooms for travellers of all ages, along with dining spaces, activities, local experiences and onward travel options, the new YHA will provide a seamless service for guests.
Paul McGrath, CEO of YHA Australia said: “The new YHA at Railway Square will be created for both international and Australian visitors - and will transform perceptions of affordable accommodation with its ultra-modern design and fit-out. Whether solo travellers, digital nomads, or groups of friends and families exploring Sydney’s events and attractions, the YHA will be their ideal base, in a buzzing hub.”
With construction due to commence in early 2022, doors will open to a new era of independent travel in 2026.
