Sustainability at YHA Grampians Eco
YHA Grampians Eco (Halls Gap) is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and being a responsible community member through a mix of conservation and sustainable practices and services. Initiatives include:
Energy conservation
- Low energy lighting used within the hostel
- Solar hot water system with an electrical boost
- Bathroom exhaust automated on a variable speed fan
- Promotion of public transport
Waste minimisation
- Recycling stations in kitchens, external areas and office areas
- Recycle paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminium and steel cans, batteries and printer cartridges
- Lost property donated to local op shop
- Rainwater tank and grey-water recycling on site used to flush toilets
- 4 star WELS rated taps and showers
- Dual flush toilets
- Native gardens with drought tolerant plants to provide shelter and food for local wildlife
Social sustainability
- Collect donations for local wildlife centre
- Member of local tourism organisation and provide property tours to local tourism and hospitality students
