Sustainability at YHA Grampians Eco

YHA Grampians Eco (Halls Gap) is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and being a responsible community member through a mix of conservation and sustainable practices and services. Initiatives include:

Energy conservation

  • Low energy lighting used within the hostel
  • Solar hot water system with an electrical boost
  • Bathroom exhaust automated on a variable speed fan
  • Promotion of public transport

Waste minimisation

  • Recycling stations in kitchens, external areas and office areas
  • Recycle paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminium and steel cans, batteries and printer cartridges
  • Lost property donated to local op shop
  • Rainwater tank and grey-water recycling on site used to flush toilets
  • 4 star WELS rated taps and showers
  • Dual flush toilets
  • Native gardens with drought tolerant plants to provide shelter and food for local wildlife 

Social sustainability

  • Collect donations for local wildlife centre
  • Member of local tourism organisation and provide property tours to local tourism and hospitality students
